THE Mediation Specialists for the East Midlands

Assessment Procedure

Assessment Procedure

  1. We will offer a separate Assessment appointment for any person wishing to discuss whether their family difficulties could be helped by the Mediation process.
  2. The initial Assessment will be at a separate time for each individual.
  3. The Assessment is carried out by a qualified Mediator Assessor.
  4. Assessment meetings are designed to provide information for you about:-
    • What Mediation is.
    • How Mediation may suit your circumstances.
    • The other options that may be available and the cost consequences of each option.
  5. Mediation only commences after each party has been assessed by the Mediator as being suitable and willing (specific requirements for each Mediation will be discussed at the Assessment stage such as separate waiting areas, arrival and departure times or ‘shuttle’ Mediation).
  6. Assessment meetings are only free if paid for by the Government under the current Public Funding Scheme. Assessment meetings will only be free if you have provided sufficient information to the Mediator for them to assess your eligibility.
  7. The Mediator will assess eligibility for free Assessment and/or Mediation at the Assessment meeting. You must be in a position to provide evidence of capital and income for your family unit at that Assessment meeting. If you are unable to do so the Mediator will charge a fee equivalent to the LSC Assessment rate, which is currently £104.40 and will not be able to assess whether you are eligible for free Mediation. Please refer to the guide on what evidence is required at Assessment.
